PHOENIX — There’s nothing like rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty for Army veteran Charlie Ellis.

“It’s been a wild ride. Its been a wild ride!” he explains.

But it’s all been worth it.

Five years ago, Charlie, who is a licensed contractor, created Operation Enduring Gratitude as a way to put his construction skills to good use –building better lives for Valley veterans.

So far, they’ve rebuilt five homes, created dozens of wheelchair ramps, and done more odd jobs than they can count –at no cost to these American heroes. Our camera were rolling as they were helping an 85-year-old Army veteran in North Phoenix.

“Typically, they are the undeserved elderly under-financed, poor, broken, hurting veterans…It’s heartwarming to see how you change their lives and at another level change everyone’s perspective about how the community cares about each other we are willing when were successful we all win”

And Charlie Ellis, that is why you are one of Nick’s Heroes!
